SubPassport vs TrustLayer

TrustLayer is an AI-powered COI and vendor risk platform. SubPassport also tracks certificates—and adds a Project Passport for the homeowner and the job. Different jobs; sometimes overlapping.

Honest take: For enterprise construction risk teams that need Procore / CMiC / Vista integrations and optional human COI review (TrustLayer Plus), TrustLayer’s paid tiers are purpose-built. For a painting or remodel contractor who also wants the homeowner to follow the job, SubPassport is the tighter fit.

Where TrustLayer is better

  • Free Starter for up to 50 vendors
  • AI-heavy compliance workflows and BI on paid plans
  • Native Procore / CMiC / Vista paths
  • Optional managed review (TrustLayer Plus)
  • Built for risk teams and large vendor programs

Where SubPassport is better

  • Transparent Contractor / Sub pricing on the website
  • Designed for GCs and painting/remodel crews day-to-day
  • Project Passport for the homeowner on the same job
  • Lien waivers, change orders, punch list, crew clock-in
  • Insurance check before recording a sub payment

When to pick which

Pick TrustLayer if COI risk ops for many vendors (or ERP hooks) are the whole product. Pick SubPassport if compliance must sit next to the job the homeowner sees. A large GC might use TrustLayer for risk and still want a homeowner-facing portal—that portal is our lane.
